Heal & Nourish
The human skin is one of our most important body parts. However when the skin becomes dry, it can feel rough and tight, even reddened, scaly and itchy. Whether your skin is dry, prone to irritation, inflamed, or suffering from skin conditions like Rosacea, Eczema, or Dermatitis, there are skin care products you can use to improve your skin’s comfort and appearance.
WHAT CAUSES DRY SKIN?
There is no single cause of dry skin. Cold temperatures and low humidity, especially during winter can cause dryness. Internal factors such as overall health, age, genetics, family history and various medical conditions can also have an effect on your skin’s health.
As we age, we naturally become more vulnerable to dry skin as well as dullness and a loss of firmness. The epidermis thins as we age, so water retention decreases and the skin is more sensitive to dehydration. In addition, the skin’s ability to regenerate lipids that make up the stratum corneum declines, meaning that essential fatty acids (EFA) become more important to have them.
TOP TIPS TO HELP TO HEAL DRY SKIN & PREVENT ITS RETURN
Baths and showers can make dry skin worse. Limit your time in the shower or bath to 5 or 10 minutes. Use warm rather than hot water. Clean the skin with a gentle cleanser.
Avoid using the products & toners which contain alcohol, alcohol free is recommended.
Apply moisturiser immediately after washing. Ointments, creams and lotions (moisturisers) work by trapping existing moisture in your skin.
Use cream rather than a lotion, Creams are more effective and less irritating than lotions, Look for a cream that contains a high % of essential fatty acids
Wear lip balm. Choose a lip balm that moisturises and protects your lips. Choose non-irritating clothes and laundry detergent. When your skin is dry and raw, even clothes and laundry detergents can irritate the skin.
